TTC alerts and Canadian prices: getting started with a Toronto IP
Think of a proxy as a go-between: your browser talks to it, and it fetches websites for you from its own IP address, the online address sites use to work out where you are. With a Toronto proxy, sites treat you as someone in the city, so you'll see Canadian dollar prices, Ontario news and local events. Newcomers, students and small sellers use it to get a local view.
TTC news before you travel
The TTC, Toronto's transit agency, runs the subway, streetcars and buses, and local outlets such as CityNews report delays and closures as they happen. A Toronto IP tilts news apps and searches towards those stories, which helps if you're moving to the city and learning how it gets around.
Canadian versions of shops
Some international shops run a separate Canadian site with prices in Canadian dollars, and a Toronto IP usually brings that version up, which is handy if you sell online and want to compare. Sales tax, called HST in Ontario, is added at checkout according to the delivery address.
A quick check that it works
After adding the proxy's host, port, username and password to your browser, search for 'weather'. If Toronto's forecast comes up, websites now see you in the city; Mississauga or Markham means you're in the wider Toronto area, just labelled differently.
Fare cards and health cover
PRESTO, the fare card used on the TTC and GO Transit, and OHIP, Ontario's health insurance plan, sit outside what a proxy can do: OHIP needs proof of residence, and fares cost the same however you browse.

Local broadband and mobile networks
Which type should I pick?
You buy data by the gigabyte (GB). Unsure? Residential covers most local checks.
Residential Premium
Selected residential IPs. For stricter sites.
Quick start in three steps
- 1 Buy a little data first
- 2 Choose the location
- 3 Connect, then test it
First time? The setup guide walks through each step, and our IP checker shows when it's working.
Good to know first
- Types. Residential and mobile IPs come from home broadband and phone networks; datacenter IPs come from servers. Residential, explained →
- Connections. Every type works over HTTP, HTTPS and SOCKS5. What those are →
- Sessions. A sticky session keeps one IP for a while, which suits logins. A rotating one changes it on every request, which suits long lists of public pages. Which do I need? → Static proxies →
- Limits. Only your IP changes, not your language settings, your clock or who you are when signed in.
- The rules. Stay within the law that applies to you and each site's terms of service. Acceptable use policy →
