What a Canadian IP changes: flyers, French pages and time zones
Plenty of big brands run a Canadian site next to their American one, with Canadian-dollar prices, a French version for Quebec and stock that follows the postal code you type. A Canadian IP address, the network address sites use to guess your country, often lands you on those Canadian sites rather than the US ones. It won't make you a resident, which matters for contests and some offers.
Flyer deals and stock checks
Weekly flyers, the lists of each week's deals, still drive a lot of Canadian shopping, and many change by province or even by store. A Canadian IP shows the Canadian site with prices in CAD, but stock and delivery still follow the postal code you type in.
English or French?
Canada has two official languages, English and French. Quebec law requires businesses there to use French, so most big Canadian shops have a French version of their site, while English is the default elsewhere. To switch, look for the 'Français' link, often in the site's header.
Time zones with a twist
Toronto and Montreal share Eastern Time; Vancouver is three hours behind in summer. British Columbia stopped changing its clocks after March 2026, so once Toronto falls back in November the gap shrinks to two hours. Newfoundland's clock sits half an hour out of step with the rest of Canada.
Contests are for residents
A Canadian IP doesn't make you eligible for offers meant for people who live there. Canadian contests, for example, are usually limited to residents and often ask winners a skill-testing question. Each contest's rules and your own local law decide who can enter, whatever address a website sees.

Whatever you use it for, the law where you live and each website's terms still apply, and our acceptable use policy lists what we never allow.
The basics, in plain English
Websites read your IP address, your connection's number online, to work out where you are. A proxy lends you one of ours from the country you pick; your language settings, clock, card and delivery address stay as they are, and sites you sign in to still know it's you.
