British pages from abroad: pounds, VAT and GMT versus BST

Britons abroad can find their usual shops and news sites showing an international version, minus the offers or pages they know from home. A UK proxy swaps your IP address, the number websites use to work out roughly where you are, for a British one, so pages appear as they would in Britain, with prices in pounds. It also lets you test how a site looks to UK visitors before you sell there.

Google picks the country for you

Google now decides which country's results you get from your location, not from typing a .co.uk address, and since 2025 it has been folding country domains into google.com. A UK IP is the simple way to see British search results, such as local shops and UK news.

Prices include VAT

UK shop prices already include VAT, the sales tax, so the price you see is usually what you pay before delivery. That's different from the US, where tax is added at checkout, so compare carefully if you switch between the two.

Summer time in Britain

UK clocks go forward on the last Sunday in March and back on the last Sunday in October, as in most of Europe. In winter UK time equals GMT, Greenwich Mean Time; in summer it's an hour ahead, so a time labelled GMT in July is easy to misread.

UK-only offers stay UK-only

Competitions, free trials and student discounts aimed at the UK usually ask for a UK address, card or proof of status. A British IP lets you look at those pages, but eligibility is decided by the offer's rules, not by the location your IP suggests.

The basics, in plain English

Websites read your IP address, your connection's number online, to work out where you are. A proxy lends you one of ours from the country you pick; your language settings, clock, card and delivery address stay as they are, and sites you sign in to still know it's you.

  1. Choose a type and a small package below.
  2. Copy your login details from the dashboard into your browser, phone or app. HTTP, HTTPS and SOCKS5 all work.
  3. Open our My IP tool to check the location websites now see.

United Kingdom proxies: first-timer questions

Often, for everyday sites. Some British shops and news sites show an international version to visitors abroad, and a UK IP can bring back the page you'd see at home. Services that check more than your IP, or whose terms limit use from abroad, still decide for themselves, and grocery delivery still needs a UK address.
For general browsing, any UK city will do. Choose one only when location matters, such as checking local search results, a shop's stock in Leeds or what a Scottish site shows people in Edinburgh. When in doubt, London is a sensible default.
Start small: packages begin at 1 GB, and each order lasts 30 days, used or not. Text pages use far less data than video or downloads.
Tell us within 24 hours of delivery. We'll swap it for one that works or, if we can't, refund that part of the order. Used data can't be refunded.
