Seeing Mexico as locals do: pesos, Spanish and El Buen Fin
Mexican shops write prices with a $ sign that means pesos, not dollars, and their big yearly sale, El Buen Fin, falls in November. Through a Mexican IP address, the numeric label your connection carries online, sites show their Mexican versions, so you can check peso prices, compare Mercado Libre offers or see an app in Mexican Spanish.
The $ sign that means pesos
Mexican prices use the $ symbol too, but they're in pesos (MXN), not US dollars. Before comparing a price with one from home, convert it with a currency calculator, and remember the final amount can change once delivery is added.
Mexican Spanish on screen
Sites in Mexico are written in Spanish, with local words such as 'celular' for mobile phone. If a page appears in the wrong language, check your browser's language setting, since many sites listen to that before they look at your IP.
Why the time gap moves
Most of Mexico stopped changing its clocks in 2022, the US border area being the exception, so Mexico City time no longer jumps in spring or autumn. If you live somewhere that changes, the gap to Mexico moves when your clocks do, so recheck it before a live sale.
Deals still have rules
Offers during El Buen Fin or on Mercado Libre usually need a Mexican delivery address and a payment option that works in Mexico. A proxy changes what you can see, not what you're entitled to buy, and the shop's own rules keep deciding who can order.
Simple first projects in Mexico
Whatever you use it for, the law where you live and each website's terms still apply, and our acceptable use policy lists what we never allow.
The basics, in plain English
Websites read your IP address, your connection's number online, to work out where you are. A proxy lends you one of ours from the country you pick; your language settings, clock, card and delivery address stay as they are, and sites you sign in to still know it's you.
