London proxies, made simple
A London IP brings up the UK versions of websites, with prices in pounds sterling. The city keeps Greenwich Mean Time in winter and moves to British Summer Time from late March.

Your first London IP: what changes, how to set it up and its limits
London's 'near me' results can change from one borough to the next, and search engines start from your IP address, the number your connection shows to every website. A London proxy, which passes your browsing through a connection in the city, makes them assume you're in London, so results lean towards BBC London stories, Time Out London listings and nearby shops. It suits visitors, Londoners abroad and small shops checking their listings.
What looks different
Searches with 'near me' usually switch to London places, such as a Sunday roast in Hackney or a late pharmacy in Soho. Weather pages tend to open on the London forecast, and some shops show stock at their London branches when you check availability.
Quick start in three steps
First, choose the United Kingdom and then London when you set up the proxy. Next, paste the host, port, username and password into your browser's proxy settings. Finally, open an IP-check page: it should name London, or sometimes a borough such as Southwark.
What it won't change
A London IP doesn't come with a UK bank card, a London address or a UK phone number, so sign-ups that check those still see your real details. Council services, such as resident parking permits, also ask for proof of address that an IP can't provide.

Good to know first
- Types. Residential and mobile IPs come from home broadband and phone networks; datacenter IPs come from servers. Residential, explained →
- Connections. Every type works over HTTP, HTTPS and SOCKS5. What those are →
- Sessions. A sticky session keeps one IP for a while, which suits logins. A rotating one changes it on every request, which suits long lists of public pages. Which do I need? → Static proxies →
- Limits. Only your IP changes, not your language settings, your clock or who you are when signed in.
- The rules. Stay within the law that applies to you and each site's terms of service. Acceptable use policy →
