Austrian IPs for beginners: ski trips, Sunday closing and the motorway vignette

Austrian websites look a lot like German ones until you check prices, delivery terms and opening hours. An Austrian proxy routes your browsing through Austria, so you see the Austrian side, in German and in euros. People use it to plan a ski trip, check prices before a move or test their own site. What each site allows doesn't change, as the ORF example in the FAQ shows.

Ski trips and moves

People moving to Vienna or Graz browse supermarket web shops to plan a weekly budget and second-hand adverts for furniture, while site owners test whether their pages greet Austrian visitors properly. Ski fans look at resort pages for places such as Kitzbühel or St Anton as they appear locally.

The motorway vignette

Austrian motorways need a vignette, sold as a digital one through ASFINAG's official shop. An annual or two-month digital vignette bought online as a consumer only becomes valid after a waiting period of more than two weeks, so buy early or at a sales point. Your IP plays no part.

Sunday closing

Most Austrian shops close on Sundays and most public holidays, apart from those in railway stations, airports and some petrol stations. Online orders still go through, but deliveries and replies wait for a working day, counted on Vienna time, an hour ahead of the UK.

The basics, in plain English

Websites read your IP address, your connection's number online, to work out where you are. A proxy lends you one of ours from the country you pick; your language settings, clock, card and delivery address stay as they are, and sites you sign in to still know it's you.

  1. Choose a type and a small package below.
  2. Copy your login details from the dashboard into your browser, phone or app. HTTP, HTTPS and SOCKS5 all work.
  3. Open our My IP tool to check the location websites now see.

Austria proxies: first-timer questions

Using a proxy isn't against the law in Austria in itself. Some ORF programmes, for example, are licensed only for viewers in Austria, and an Austrian IP doesn't change who that licence covers. Site terms, copyright and the law where you live still apply to whatever you do through it.
Not by itself. Ski pass prices depend on the resort, the dates and how many days you buy, and some resorts sell cheaper passes to local residents only, asking for proof of address that an IP can't provide. Use the Austrian site to compare offers, then book whatever your situation qualifies for.
Start small: packages begin at 1 GB, and each order lasts 30 days, used or not. Text pages use far less data than video or downloads.
Tell us within 24 hours of delivery. We'll swap it for one that works or, if we can't, refund that part of the order. Used data can't be refunded.
