Helsinki proxies, made simple
Helsinki is officially bilingual, so street signs and many sites use both Finnish and Swedish. Prices are in euros, and Finland runs on Eastern European Time.

What changes when Finnish sites think you're in Helsinki, and what doesn't
Finnish sites decide which events, flats and jobs to show you by looking at your IP address, a number attached to your connection. Connect through a Helsinki proxy and they assume you're in the capital: the city's own event listings come first, maps centre on Helsinki and searches for student flats or jobs return local results. Here's what that's good for, and where it stops.
City events through the year
Helsinki Day in June celebrates the city's birthday, and St Thomas Christmas Market opens in the city centre in December. MyHelsinki, the city's visitor site, lists both. Searching for events today ('tapahtumat tänään') through a Helsinki IP usually brings the capital's own listings to the top.
Set it up in the browser first
Select Helsinki as the city, add the proxy details to your browser, and test there first, for example on MyHelsinki's event pages. Some phone apps ignore a device's proxy settings, so if an app still shows your home city while the browser shows Helsinki, the app is the reason.
What doesn't change
A Helsinki IP won't make HSL travel cheaper, and it won't give you a Finnish phone number, which some local apps ask for when you sign up. It changes what websites show you, nothing more, and each site's terms apply to you as usual.

Local broadband and mobile networks
Which type should I pick?
You buy data by the gigabyte (GB). Unsure? Residential covers most local checks.
Residential Premium
Selected residential IPs. For stricter sites.
Quick start in three steps
- 1 Buy a little data first
- 2 Choose the location
- 3 Connect, then test it
First time? The setup guide walks through each step, and our IP checker shows when it's working.
Good to know first
- Types. Residential and mobile IPs come from home broadband and phone networks; datacenter IPs come from servers. Residential, explained →
- Connections. Every type works over HTTP, HTTPS and SOCKS5. What those are →
- Sessions. A sticky session keeps one IP for a while, which suits logins. A rotating one changes it on every request, which suits long lists of public pages. Which do I need? → Static proxies →
- Limits. Only your IP changes, not your language settings, your clock or who you are when signed in.
- The rules. Stay within the law that applies to you and each site's terms of service. Acceptable use policy →
