Belgian IPs explained simply: Dutch, French or German on the same site
Belgium is a country where an internet address can't tell a website which language you want. A Belgian proxy, a server in Belgium that passes your browsing on, settles only the country: sites see a visitor in Belgium and offer their Belgian version, with euro prices and Belgian delivery options. The clock matches Paris and Amsterdam. Each website's rules stay exactly where they were.
Everyday uses
Comparing what a shop charges in Belgium with its Dutch or French site, checking delivery costs before sending a gift to Brussels or Antwerp, and seeing how your own webshop looks to Belgian visitors are all common reasons. A Belgian address often makes a site open its Belgian side first.
Picking a language
Belgian sites often greet first-time visitors with a choice of NL or FR, sometimes DE and EN too, and remember the answer in a cookie, so clearing cookies brings the question back. Dutch is used in Flanders in the north, French in Wallonia in the south.
What a Belgian IP can't do
Belgian banks and government services log people in with itsme, an identity app, or with an eID card and a card reader. Both belong to a real person rather than to a connection, so a Belgian address can't stand in for either of them.

Whatever you use it for, the law where you live and each website's terms still apply, and our acceptable use policy lists what we never allow.
The basics, in plain English
Websites read your IP address, your connection's number online, to work out where you are. A proxy lends you one of ours from the country you pick; your language settings, clock, card and delivery address stay as they are, and sites you sign in to still know it's you.
