Lagos explained for beginners: days out, Lagos papers and what you still need locally
A proxy relays your browsing through another connection, and websites see that connection's location. Pick Lagos and local sites read you as a Lagosian, putting the city's events, restaurants and news first. Nigerians abroad use it to keep up with home, and small sellers use it to check their shop pages. Getting set up is quick: select a proxy type, set the location to Nigeria and Lagos, and paste the details into your browser.
Places and plans
Lagos day-out ideas come up first: the canopy walk at the Lekki Conservation Centre, Nike Art Gallery, boat trips to Tarkwa Bay beach and the stalls of Balogun Market, each with current opening times and directions.
Lagos papers
Vanguard and The Guardian (Nigeria) are both published in Lagos, and BusinessDay covers the city's money stories. Their local pages report road closures, flood warnings in the rainy season and new openings, useful if you're visiting or have family there.
A simple test
Open YouTube without signing in and check the location shown in its settings menu: it should say Nigeria. If it still shows your home country, recheck the proxy details you entered in the browser.
What you still need locally
Opening a Nigerian bank account needs a BVN, the Bank Verification Number, and registering a SIM needs your NIN, the National Identification Number. A Lagos IP supplies neither, and it won't make Lagos shops deliver to an address abroad.

Local broadband and mobile networks
Which type should I pick?
You buy data by the gigabyte (GB). Unsure? Residential covers most local checks.
Residential Premium
Selected residential IPs. For stricter sites.
Quick start in three steps
- 1 Buy a little data first
- 2 Choose the location
- 3 Connect, then test it
First time? The setup guide walks through each step, and our IP checker shows when it's working.
Good to know first
- Types. Residential and mobile IPs come from home broadband and phone networks; datacenter IPs come from servers. Residential, explained →
- Connections. Every type works over HTTP, HTTPS and SOCKS5. What those are →
- Sessions. A sticky session keeps one IP for a while, which suits logins. A rotating one changes it on every request, which suits long lists of public pages. Which do I need? → Static proxies →
- Limits. Only your IP changes, not your language settings, your clock or who you are when signed in.
- The rules. Stay within the law that applies to you and each site's terms of service. Acceptable use policy →
