Second-hand prices, app checks and EU deliveries: everyday uses for a Norwegian IP
Norway sits outside the EU, pays in kroner and writes its language in two official ways. Through a Norwegian proxy, FINN.no, Norwegian webshops and apps see a Norwegian address instead of yours and show the version meant for people in Norway. Whether a shop will post to you outside Norway is still its own decision.
FINN.no asking prices
Norwegians list cars, flats and second-hand bits on FINN.no, while Komplett sells electronics priced in kroner. A Norwegian IP shows you those listings and prices as they appear locally, useful if you sell used gear and want to see what Norwegians ask for the same item.
Does your app look right in Norway?
Through a Norwegian IP you can check that a webshop or app you built shows prices in kroner, offers Vipps if you support it, and writes dates the Norwegian way: day, month and year separated by dots.
Two kinds of written Norwegian
Norwegian has two official written forms, Bokmål and Nynorsk. Most sites use Bokmål, while some public and regional sites also offer Nynorsk, and the two read like close cousins. Norway shares a clock with Germany and Sweden, an hour ahead of the UK.
Where a proxy stops
Many Norwegian services, from banks to the tax office, ask for a fødselsnummer (the national identity number) or a D-number, a temporary number many foreign workers get, and an IP address supplies neither. FINN.no's terms, like every shop's, still apply to you as well.
Simple first projects in Norway
Whatever you use it for, the law where you live and each website's terms still apply, and our acceptable use policy lists what we never allow.
The basics, in plain English
Websites read your IP address, your connection's number online, to work out where you are. A proxy lends you one of ours from the country you pick; your language settings, clock, card and delivery address stay as they are, and sites you sign in to still know it's you.
