MB WAY, island clocks and Lisbon prices: a Portuguese IP explained
Portugal speaks European Portuguese, not the Brazilian variant that global sites often default to, and pays at checkout with MB WAY or a Multibanco reference. A proxy in Portugal lends you a Portuguese IP address, the label websites see for your connection, so most sites treat you like a visitor in Lisbon or Porto and show euro prices and local offers. It won't make you Portuguese in any legal sense.
See what Portuguese shoppers see
Portuguese shops such as Worten or Fnac can show different stock, delivery options or promotions to visitors inside Portugal. A Portuguese IP lets you look at the same page a shopper in Lisbon sees, which is handy before a move, a trip or a gift order.
Test your own app or site as a local
If you built a website, an app or an online shop for Portuguese customers, browsing through a Portuguese IP shows you what they get: the right language, prices in euros with the € sign after the number, and dates written day/month/year.
Clocks and islands
Mainland Portugal and Madeira keep the same clock as London, one hour behind Paris and Madrid, while the Azores sit another hour behind. Many shops treat the islands as a separate delivery zone, often with extra cost or time, and the islands have lower VAT rates too.
Payments still need a Portuguese bank
Portuguese checkouts often offer MB WAY or a Multibanco payment reference, and both depend on a Portuguese bank account or card. A Portuguese IP supplies neither, and it leaves every shop's and site's terms exactly as they were, so read those before you order.
Simple first projects in Portugal
Whatever you use it for, the law where you live and each website's terms still apply, and our acceptable use policy lists what we never allow.
The basics, in plain English
Websites read your IP address, your connection's number online, to work out where you are. A proxy lends you one of ours from the country you pick; your language settings, clock, card and delivery address stay as they are, and sites you sign in to still know it's you.
