Doha listings, English-friendly sites and the Friday weekend: Qatar for newcomers
Qatar's web runs in Arabic and English side by side, and most of the country's flats, shops and classified adverts are in or around Doha. Through a Qatari proxy, your visits arrive from an address in Qatar, so riyal prices and Qatar Living adverts appear the way residents get them.
Moving, comparing, checking
Expats planning a move browse Qatar Living and Property Finder to see what rent costs in Doha, shoppers compare Carrefour or Lulu prices with those at home, and small website owners check how their pages appear to visitors in the Gulf.
Language basics
Arabic is the official language and is written right to left, but English is used widely in Qatar, so many sites offer both. If a page opens in Arabic, look for a language switch near the top, or let your browser translate it for you.
Clock and calendar
Qatar is three hours ahead of UTC all year round, with no summer clock change to remember. The weekend falls on Friday and Saturday, and during Ramadan many shops and services work shorter daytime hours and stay open later at night.
No Qatar ID, no resident status
A Qatari IP does not make you a resident in any site's eyes. Services that ask for a Qatar ID, a local phone number or a delivery address in Qatar still need them, and each website's terms continue to apply to everything you do there.
Simple first projects in Qatar
Whatever you use it for, the law where you live and each website's terms still apply, and our acceptable use policy lists what we never allow.
The basics, in plain English
Websites read your IP address, your connection's number online, to work out where you are. A proxy lends you one of ours from the country you pick; your language settings, clock, card and delivery address stay as they are, and sites you sign in to still know it's you.
