Beijing proxies, made simple
Beijing is China's capital. Like the rest of the country it keeps Beijing time, a single clock for all of China, and locals tend to search with Baidu rather than Google.

Beijing basics for beginners: temple fairs, Mandarin practice and Forbidden City tickets
Your IP address works a bit like a postmark: it tells websites roughly where your connection starts. Show Chinese sites a Beijing postmark and they file you under the capital, putting hutong cafés, temple fairs and theatre nights first. It's a simple way to rehearse a first trip, or to read Mandarin written for Beijingers rather than for textbooks.
Planning a visit
Spring Festival temple fairs, shows at the National Centre for the Performing Arts and hutong walking tours all appear with Beijing dates and yuan prices. Note that the Palace Museum, inside the Forbidden City, usually closes on Mondays outside holiday periods.
Mandarin practice with a Beijing accent
Standard Mandarin takes its pronunciation from Beijing speech, though locals add a curling 'r' sound, called erhua, to many words. Reading The Beijing News or local shop pages gives learners everyday vocabulary in Simplified characters, and browser translation fills the gaps.
Phone setup for a Beijing IP
On Android or iPhone, open the settings for your Wi-Fi network, find the proxy option, switch it to manual and type in the host and port, adding your username and password when asked. An IP-lookup site should then name Beijing, sometimes twice, as both the city and its province-level region.

First time? The setup guide walks through each step, and our IP checker shows when it's working.
Good to know first
- Types. Residential and mobile IPs come from home broadband and phone networks; datacenter IPs come from servers. Residential, explained →
- Connections. Every type works over HTTP, HTTPS and SOCKS5. What those are →
- Sessions. A sticky session keeps one IP for a while, which suits logins. A rotating one changes it on every request, which suits long lists of public pages. Which do I need? → Static proxies →
- Limits. Only your IP changes, not your language settings, your clock or who you are when signed in.
- The rules. Stay within the law that applies to you and each site's terms of service. Acceptable use policy →
