Wallapop, ferry fares and LaLiga rules: Spain through a local IP
Spain is one country with several languages online and two clocks, since the Canary Islands run an hour behind Madrid. A Spanish proxy, a middleman server in Spain, lets the sites you visit see its address rather than yours, so you get the Spanish edition, euro prices and the app versions people in Spain see.
Things people actually do
Check how El Corte Inglés, the Spanish department store chain, looks to local visitors before a trip, browse Wallapop, a Spanish second-hand app, to get a feel for asking prices, or try your own website as someone in Spain would before you start selling there.
Spanish, Catalan and more
Spanish works everywhere, yet a site run from Barcelona, Santiago de Compostela or Bilbao may greet you first in Catalan, Galician or Basque, each official in its own region. Look for a language menu, often at the top or bottom of the page, to switch.
The island time zone
Madrid, Barcelona and Palma keep Central European Time, an hour ahead of the UK. The Canary Islands share the UK's time, so local midnight in Tenerife arrives an hour after midnight in Madrid.
Is this allowed?
LaLiga football and Spanish TV channels are licensed country by country, so Spanish subscriptions are meant for people who live in Spain. A Spanish address from a proxy doesn't change who a subscription is for, so follow each service's terms.
Simple first projects in Spain
Whatever you use it for, the law where you live and each website's terms still apply, and our acceptable use policy lists what we never allow.
The basics, in plain English
Websites read your IP address, your connection's number online, to work out where you are. A proxy lends you one of ours from the country you pick; your language settings, clock, card and delivery address stay as they are, and sites you sign in to still know it's you.
