Browsing with an Argentine IP: vos, pesos and Buenos Aires time
Argentine websites write 'vos' where Spain and Mexico write 'tú', list flats for sale in US dollars and revise peso prices often, so they can puzzle even fluent Spanish readers. An Argentine IP address, the network address websites use to place you, shows Mercado Libre and local shops as people in Buenos Aires or Córdoba see them, a handy way to get used to those habits before you compare prices.
Spanish with vos
Argentine sites use 'vos' instead of 'tú', so buttons say 'Comprá' or 'Ingresá' rather than 'Compra' or 'Ingresa'. That's normal local Spanish, not a typo, and a handy sign you're looking at the Argentine version of a page.
Pesos, and sometimes dollars
When a price shows only $, it's in Argentine pesos. Flats and many cars are listed in US dollars instead, marked U$S or USD, and a dollar figure looks far smaller than the same price in pesos, so check the symbol before comparing.
Argentine time
Argentina keeps one time zone all year, running three hours behind the global time standard, UTC. That puts Buenos Aires three hours behind London during the UK winter and four hours behind in the British summer, because only the UK changes its clocks.
Use the official tools for data
If you want Mercado Libre prices for a hobby project, the company offers official developer tools for that. Looking at pages yourself through a proxy is fine, but copying them in bulk can break the site's terms, whichever country your IP comes from.
Simple first projects in Argentina
Whatever you use it for, the law where you live and each website's terms still apply, and our acceptable use policy lists what we never allow.
The basics, in plain English
Websites read your IP address, your connection's number online, to work out where you are. A proxy lends you one of ours from the country you pick; your language settings, clock, card and delivery address stay as they are, and sites you sign in to still know it's you.
