Chile with a local IP: a beginner's guide to store-card prices, CyberDay and clocks
Comparing CyberDay offers at Falabella or Ripley, or seeing an app the way someone in Santiago would, works best when sites believe you're in Chile. A Chilean IP address does that, acting like a Chilean return address for your browsing, so sites show you their Chilean pages. A few local habits, from store-card prices to homes priced in UF, are worth knowing first.
One item, two prices
Big Chilean stores such as Falabella, Paris and Ripley often show a regular price beside a lower one for holders of their own store card. Those cards are Chilean credit products, so the regular price is usually the one a visitor from abroad could pay.
Homes priced in UF
House and flat adverts often show prices in UF, a Chilean unit that rises with inflation. Search 'valor UF hoy' to find today's value and convert it to pesos, otherwise the price will make no sense.
A southern-hemisphere clock
Chile is in the southern hemisphere, so Santiago's clocks go forward in September and back in April, the opposite of Europe and North America. The government sets the exact dates by decree and has moved them before, so check this year's dates before a call or live sale.
When you don't need one
Plenty of Chilean shops open normally from abroad. A Chilean IP matters mostly for pages that change with location, such as store stock, delivery estimates and local Google results, so try the site without a proxy first and save your data allowance.
Simple first projects in Chile
Whatever you use it for, the law where you live and each website's terms still apply, and our acceptable use policy lists what we never allow.
The basics, in plain English
Websites read your IP address, your connection's number online, to work out where you are. A proxy lends you one of ours from the country you pick; your language settings, clock, card and delivery address stay as they are, and sites you sign in to still know it's you.
- Choose a type and a small package below.
- Copy your login details from the dashboard into your browser, phone or app. HTTP, HTTPS and SOCKS5 all work.
