An Egyptian IP for beginners: pounds, Arabic pages and a clock that changes again
Egyptian shop pages often come in Arabic first, reading right to left, with an English switch on the bigger sites such as Amazon.eg and noon. An Egyptian proxy, a server in Egypt that relays your browsing, lets Egyptians abroad check what things cost at home in pounds, travellers compare Cairo prices before a trip and learners read sites the way Egyptians do.
Common reasons
Want to know what a phone costs on Amazon.eg before asking family to buy it? Planning a Luxor trip and comparing hotel prices? Building a website for an Alexandria client? An Egyptian IP shows you pages the way local visitors get them.
Arabic pages, step by step
Arabic runs right to left, which flips the layout: the menu and search box often start on the right. Amazon.eg and noon both have English versions, and your browser's translate option covers smaller Arabic-only shops. Egyptian Arabic in adverts can differ from textbook Arabic, so translations may sound odd.
Egyptian time
Clocks in Cairo went back to changing twice a year in 2023: UTC+3 from late April to late October, UTC+2 the rest of the year. Friday and Saturday make up the weekend, and Ramadan changes opening hours, with many shops busy late into the evening.
Limits to keep in mind
Shops still deliver only to addresses they serve, and cash on delivery needs someone at the door in Egypt. Bank cards, mobile wallets such as Vodafone Cash and app store accounts are tied to your real details, not your IP. Every website's terms apply in full.

Whatever you use it for, the law where you live and each website's terms still apply, and our acceptable use policy lists what we never allow.
The basics, in plain English
Websites read your IP address, your connection's number online, to work out where you are. A proxy lends you one of ours from the country you pick; your language settings, clock, card and delivery address stay as they are, and sites you sign in to still know it's you.
