RM price tags, Malay words and Borneo delivery: Malaysia minus the jargon
Malay and English share most Malaysian websites, sometimes joined by Chinese or Tamil, and shops often treat Sabah and Sarawak on Borneo as a separate delivery zone. A Malaysian proxy fetches pages from inside Malaysia, so shops and travel sites reply as they would to a local visitor, handy for comparing ringgit prices or testing your own app for Malaysian users.
When a Malaysian address helps
Students heading to Kuala Lumpur can browse rental adverts as locals see them, shoppers can compare ringgit prices on Shopee Malaysia with prices at home, and anyone selling to Malaysia can check how their shop page appears to buyers in Penang or Johor Bahru.
Languages you'll meet
Malay, written in the Latin alphabet, is the national language, and English is common on Malaysian sites, with Chinese and Tamil alongside. A few words help when skimming shops: harga means price, jualan means sale, percuma means free and diskaun means discount.
Malaysian time
Malaysia uses UTC+8 nationwide, the same as Singapore, while neighbouring Thailand is an hour behind. The peninsula moved its clocks forward half an hour in 1982 to match Sabah and Sarawak on Borneo, and clocks never change for summer.
Rules that don't move
Viewing Malaysian sites through a proxy is ordinary browsing, but nobody's rules change. Shops still choose where they deliver, e-wallets such as Touch 'n Go still run their own sign-up checks, and the Computer Crimes Act still makes unauthorised access an offence.
Simple first projects in Malaysia
Whatever you use it for, the law where you live and each website's terms still apply, and our acceptable use policy lists what we never allow.
The basics, in plain English
Websites read your IP address, your connection's number online, to work out where you are. A proxy lends you one of ours from the country you pick; your language settings, clock, card and delivery address stay as they are, and sites you sign in to still know it's you.
