Habbo Hotel for beginners: hotels, the launcher and why proxies rarely matter

In plain English, a proxy swaps the internet address that websites see for a different one. Habbo doesn't need one: you pick a hotel by language, register there, and play through the Habbo Launcher for Windows or Mac or the Android app. A proxy set inside your browser only changes the Habbo website, not the launcher, which is a separate program.

Choosing your hotel

Each hotel, such as the English, German or Turkish one, keeps its own avatars, so you choose a community by registering on that hotel's site. Pick the language you'll actually chat in; a proxy has nothing to do with it.

Things that get Habbos banned

Buying credits anywhere but Habbo's own payment options brings a permanent ban with no appeal. Scripting, selling furni or accounts for real money, owning or linking to retro hotels and sharing passwords or personal details are all against the rules too.

Browsing Habbo's site through a proxy

For reading the Habbo website through another address, a datacenter proxy, whose address belongs to a data centre company, set in one browser is enough. Keep your Habbo password away from anything you don't control; Habbo even asks fan sites to warn members never to reuse it.

Quick start in three steps

Nothing to install. This is the whole route, from paying to the first page you load through the proxy.

1

Buy a small Residential plan

Choose a small bundle, or just the GB (gigabytes of data) you need, and pay. Then, under My Plans → Proxy Configuration in your dashboard, set the country, the protocol, and sticky (one address that stays put) or rotating (a new one each time).

2

Add it to one browser

Use the proxy in one browser for the game's website, forums or shop. The game and its launcher can keep their normal connection, which is usually quicker.

3

Check that it worked

With the proxy switched on, open our IP checker: it should show the proxy's address, not your own. The IP location lookup then tells you which country that address is in, and if anything looks wrong, the quick fixes further down cover the usual slips. About to log in somewhere? Switch to a sticky session first, so the address stays put.

Our pick for Habbo Hotel: Residential

Residential is the type listed here, because its home-broadband addresses look like any other player's connection. You don't need a proxy to play Habbo, though, and if all you want is to view the Habbo website through another address, a cheaper type does the job. What Habbo cares about is your account and how you behave, not clever networking.

✓

Genuine household IPs

A household IP is the sort of address a broadband provider gives a family's router. Through a residential proxy, Habbo sees one of those instead of yours, which is what most players look like anyway. Sulake, the company behind Habbo, still knows exactly which account is playing; a proxy hides nothing from it.

✓

Reach for regional hotels

Each hotel is a separate website, such as habbo.com, habbo.com.br, habbo.es or habbo.fi, with its own community. Visiting one needs no proxy. A proxy in that country only changes where your connection appears to come from; it doesn't change which hotel you're in.

✓

Sticky sessions for play

In your dashboard, pick Sticky so your proxy address stays put for a stretch. On Habbo that matters, because a trade or a room event shouldn't be interrupted by an address change halfway through. Rotating, which switches address each time, is no use for a game you stay logged into.

✓

Straightforward to set up

Setting one up takes a couple of minutes: copy the host, port, username and password from your dashboard into your browser's proxy settings, or put your home IP on the whitelist so no password is asked for. Then open an IP-checking page to confirm it works before you visit Habbo.

What a proxy won't do here

It won't lower your ping, the delay between you and the game server. And it won't make bots, extra accounts or account sharing acceptable to a game that forbids them.

What people use it for

  • ▸No address changes in the middle of a trade
  • ▸A bit more privacy on a shared network
  • ▸Visiting another country's hotel site
  • ▸Looking after your account, the Habbo Way

Which proxy type should I pick for Habbo Hotel?

Residential is the sensible starting point here. Datacenter costs less when a site accepts server addresses; mobile and premium earn their higher price only in the cases described below.

Type Choose it when… From, per GB
Datacenter Cost matters most and the site is happy with addresses from server companies. Good for public pages and first experiments. $2.49
Residential Our pick for Habbo Hotel A site turns server addresses away, or you want to see it the way a local visitor does. The address belongs to a home broadband line. $3.98
Mobile 4G/5G The service is built around phones, or you want to see it as someone on 4G or 5G would. The address comes from a phone network. $4.98
Residential Premium Standard residential keeps being refused on one particular site. Hand-picked home addresses, at a higher price per GB. $6.99

Choosing a country: Pick one near you, or near the game's servers if you know where they are. A longer route adds delay. There are 55+ countries, and in major markets some types let you pick a city too. Browse locations

For the longer version, our proxy comparison walks through all four types.

What you need for game websites and shops

Wherever you set it up, you type in the same four details from your dashboard: the host (the proxy's address), the port (a number that tells the connection which door to use), a username and a password.

Usual place for this

In one browser

Firefox has its own proxy settings, so only Firefox uses the proxy. On Windows and Mac, Chrome and Edge follow the computer's settings instead.

Step-by-step: Chrome · Firefox · Edge

Inside an app, tool or script: Python · cURL

Two ways to log in to the proxy

  • ▸Username and password. The host:port:user:pass details that browsers, apps and scripts ask for.
  • ▸IP whitelist. Add your own IP address to the list in your dashboard and connections from it need no password. Handy where there's nowhere to type one, such as Android's Wi-Fi proxy screen.

Which protocol?

A protocol is the language your device uses to talk to the proxy. Every proxy works over HTTP, HTTPS and SOCKS5; if an app asks for SOCKS5 by name, give it SOCKS5 details, and put HTTP details in an HTTP box.

Common slip-ups, and the quick fix for each

When something feels off on a first try, it's often one of these.

Logging in on a rotating address

Rotating means a new address for every request; sticky means one address kept for 1-30 minutes. Use sticky for anything you sign in to, or the site may log you out halfway through.

A slip in the proxy details

One wrong character in the host, port, username or password and nothing connects. Copy them again from your dashboard and try them in our proxy checker. Using the IP whitelist? Home IP addresses change now and then, so check yours with the IP checker and update the list.

Expecting smoother matches

A proxy adds a stop on the way to the game server, so play rarely gets any smoother through one. If a match lags, switch the proxy off before trying anything else.

Pages load slowly

Home connections vary in speed. Pick a proxy country nearer to you and try again before changing anything else.

Proxy not working when it arrives? Tell us within 24 hours of delivery and we'll swap it, or refund that part of the order if we can't (see the refund policy). Support answers 24/7 through the contact page.

Is a proxy for Habbo Hotel allowed?

Using a proxy is legal in most countries (a few restrict them), so the question is what you do through it: stick to public information and your own accounts, at a sensible pace, within the service's terms and the law where you live.

Games set their own rules, and many forbid bots, account sharing or selling in-game items for real money. A proxy changes your address, not those rules or what happens to an account that breaks them.

If personal data is involved, data-protection law applies as well, and no proxy can protect an account from a platform's own decisions.

Keeping the cost down

You pay for data by the GB, never for time, so set the proxy in the one browser or app that needs it and switch it off when you're done.

Start with a small order

Buy a little Residential data first, at $3.98 per GB, and try it where you need it. Top up once it works.

Use it within 30 days

Each order runs for 30 days from payment, and GB you haven't used don't carry over, so buy for the weeks ahead rather than the year.

Match the type to the site

Leave easy sites on datacenter and send only the stubborn ones through residential, mobile or premium. Mixing types keeps the bill small.

Questions beginners ask about Habbo Hotel

Please don't. Most Habbo sanctions are steps on a ban chart that clear after a probation period, and you can check yours under the gear icon, in My sanction status. If you think a sanction was wrong, appeal through your hotel's help pages; a fresh account behind a proxy fixes nothing.
It can be. If you switched a proxy on for the whole computer, turn it off, then press Launch and log in on the Habbo website again. If nothing changes, Habbo's help centre has articles on clearing your cache and on compatibility problems, and you can send a help request through your hotel's support pages.
Either works for privacy, and neither is needed to play. A VPN normally protects everything on your device and scrambles the connection to its server, while our proxies are set per browser or app and charged by the data you use. Neither one changes Habbo's rules.
No. A proxy adds a stop between you and Habbo, so at best it keeps things as they are. Choppy rooms usually come from weak Wi-Fi or a busy computer: try sitting nearer the router, closing other programs, or plugging in a cable.
No. Your account is protected by its password, not by your internet address. Log out when you finish, don't let the browser save your password on a shared computer, and never tell anyone your login, whatever they promise in return.
Only if you often play on networks you don't trust, such as a café or a shared house. At home your own connection is fine, and the money is better kept for something you'll use. If you do buy, a small order goes a long way, since chatting in rooms uses little data.
